Are Christians Born Into Sin?

WRITTEN BY D. R. Silva

Comment: “But at the same time, Jesus was not born of sin. One of the biggest differences we have to keep in mind.”

Absolutely not!

This is a big thing that Christians believe. They believe that there are differences between us and Jesus. It’s a religious, false-humility thing.

Christians think that it’s humble to keep a separation between God and man. “Almighty, HOLY God is way up high; us filthy, sinful humans are down in the mud!”

That way of thinking came through the fall.

It’s actually the very first consequence of sin that you find in the garden. Not God separating himself from man, but man separating himself from God.

Paul talks about it in Colossians 1.

“We were alienated from God, enemies in our minds because of our evil actions.” – (Col. 1:21)

Enemies where? In our minds; in our thinking.

Do you remember what the word repent means? “Change the way you think.” Do you remember what ministry is entrusted to the church is in 2 Cor. 5? The ministry of reconciliation. What does reconciliation mean? “Restoring a friendly relationship!”

So my ministry is not preaching on the separation between God and man, but the reconciliation of man to God through the death of Jesus.

“Listen up, creation! From God’s point of view, all the world has been reconciled to himself through Jesus! So we implore you on God’s behalf, be reconciled!”

In other words, “This is the way God thinks about you – so repent! Change the way you think about God!”

It’s what all the healing and the miracles are for: demonstrating the love and kindness of God towards mankind.

Separation is an illusion that lives in our mind as a result of sin. So be transformed by the renewing of your mind (Rom. 12:2). “Repent! Stop thinking in the OLD way, start thinking in the NEW way, and you will be transformed.”

It’s why God hates sin. People think God is mad over broken rules! He’s mad over the broken relationship between himself and his children that results from the breaking of the rules. That when men sin, they alienate themselves from God and run into the darkness to try and hide. And all they can talk about while they’re there is how much they fear God’s punishment, how shameful they feel, how much they’ve disobeyed, and how much the problems in their life are everybody else’s fault.

Christians, because they’ve never really heard the biblical message of repentance, still walk in the unrepentant mindset of flesh, and so they love to drone on and on about their sin, and the separation between themselves and God.

Scripture says that we are ONE. 1 Cor. 6:17 says that we are one SPIRIT with him.

There is no separation.

Paul goes so far as to compare it to marriage. That just as when a man and a woman get together and become one flesh, you become one spirit with God when you are joined to him. When you receive him you become one spirit with him.

There is no separation.

So I’m not thinking, “Here I am over here, here’s God over there.” I’m thinking, “This is me and God together in this body, as one.”

“I no longer live, Christ lives in me. Now the life I live, I live by the faith of Christ.” – Gal. 2:20

Christians QUOTE that all the time. But then all they ever seem to talk about is THEIR sin and THEIR flesh. We’ve given lip-service to repentance because we don’t actually change the way we think to align with what scripture says. We just quote things, and say “amen” when other people quote things, but we don’t really take the time to let those things settle into belief. Stubborn faith:

“If scripture says it, it doesn’t matter if I see it right now, I believe it’s true, and I will see it because it’s the truth! Thank you Jesus that you’ve made THIS the reality of my life, not what I see or haven’t seen so far!”

As far as Jesus not being born into sin, I’ve got good news for you! If you are a Christian, you are not born into sin either.

Let’s look at this beautiful scripture, it’s one of my favorites because it really nails how we become a new creation.

2 Cor. 5:17 says that “anyone who is in Christ has become a new creature.” If you dive into the Greek of that verse you’ll find out that the creature there is not a refurbished or repaired creature, but one who has been newly created altogether. It’s a creature that hadn’t existed before the point in time that it was created! It has huge implications!

But in John 1:12-13 we see a somewhat detailed explanation of how that new creature is born.

“But to as many as did receive and welcome Him, He gave the authority (power, privilege, right) to become the children of God, that is, to those who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) His name Who owe their birth neither to [a]bloods nor to the will of the flesh [that of physical impulse] nor to the will of man [that of a natural father], but to God. [They are born of God!]” – John 1:12-13 (AMPC)

Does that sound familiar?

It’s how Jesus was born. He was not conceived by the will of Joseph and Mary, He was conceived by Holy Spirit.

It’s why he was able to be born into a flesh suit and yet did not have a sinful nature. He didn’t inherit the fallen nature of Adam because he wasn’t a product of Adam’s seed, but the seed of the Spirit of God.

And you, when you received him, the old, Adam-self died, and you were conceived and REBORN directly by the Holy Spirit — born of God. In the new birth you bypass the sinful nature passed down through Adam.

It’s why now, although you live in a fleshly, physical body, you are no longer in the realm of the flesh (the sinful nature), but in the realm of the Spirit. (Rom. 8:9)

It’s why now, even though you live on earth, you are simultaneously “seated with Christ in heavenly places.” (Eph. 2:6)

If you are a Christian, you are not born of sin. And there is no separation between you and Jesus. Change the way you think and start speaking as if this life is you and Him together. Get “only Jesus could do that!” out of your vocabulary. His life, from birth to resurrection was setting the standard of the Christian life.

“We have confidence in the day of judgment because as He is, so are we in this world.” – 1 John 4:17

We’re not dying for anybody’s sin; don’t make what I’m saying weird so you can have an easier time writing it off. But He walked the steps of the creature, a man in God completely surrendered to the Holy Spirit.

He was born of the Spirit — so are we. He lived free from sin becasue He walked in love for others, so can we. He lives and dies falsely accused, misunderstood and completely innocent, so may we. And finally He comes out of His grave and ascends to heaven where he exists in a body of light – so will we.

He wasn’t being rhetorial when he said, “Follow me.” He was letting us know that it was actually possible because we are empowered by the same Spirit!
